F-I-V-E!!!

How is it that this handsome little guy
turned 5 today?

It seems just like yesterday that we got that exciting and unexpected phone call saying that our son had been born!!!

Things that I want to remember about Kyler at the age of 5:

He is very creative and artsy.
He is always drawing, cutting, gluing, or creating something.
Sometimes I get frustrated with the mess that it makes and I feel like all I do is pick up his papers, but there is nothing that I love more than getting a little note and picture from him.
Most nights I find him sitting at his desk after we have done our nightly routine drawing.
Some nights he will sit there for over an hour working on projects.

He is very smart and loves to learn.
He can count to 100, write his first and last name, knows the months of the year, days of the weeks, all of his letters, and can spell many mom, dad, cat, dog, max, annie, dora, and Ty.
He loves going to preschool  2 days a week with me and 3 days a week to community preschool.
He has a great memory and can remember details about things and events that most people forget.

He is a great BIG brother.
He loves to hold Khloe and entertain her.
She has learned the game of dropping things. He thinks it's pretty fun and will
sit and pick things up for her over and over again.
He always says, "She is so cute."
I love watch their relationship develop and hope that they will be the best of friends.

He loves anything scary.
This one kind of concerns me, but he loves everything related to Halloween or
anything that is scary. He LOVES going to Lagoon/Frightmares and going in all the
haunted houses. He loves scary stories like the Headless Horseman and the Windago.

He is very stubborn and headstrong.
He does best with routines and a set schedule. Whenever his environment changes it takes him a little while to warm up to the situation. Once he gets something in his mind it is very hard to change his mind. I'm hoping that this will be to his advantage as he gets older.

His favorite person is his dad.
He is the happiest when it's the weekend or when he is hanging out with dad.
Some of his favorite things to do with Jason are:
Skiing, fishing, rough housing, doing projects, exploring, playing balls on the stairs, jumping on the trampoline, riding rides together at Lagoon, drawing pictures, and just being together.

Some of his favorites include:
Curious George, robots, captain crunch, doughnuts, tacos, drawing,
balloons, Lagoon, playing with his cousins, the color green, and
playing outside.

Happy Birthday Kyler!!!
Your family loves you so much and couldn't imagine our life
without you. We look forward to another year of experiences and memories made. We are excited to see how much you learn and grow in the coming year.

Summers End

We couldn't let Summer come to an end without making
one more trip up to beautiful Bear Lake.

Khloe is 6 months old and isn't able to sit alone yet.
That didn't keep her from trying. We dug a little hole to sit her in
and propped her up with sand.
She LOVED the feeling of sand in her hands.
It was all fun and games until she decided to eat it.

Sunday morning while the kids and Jason were sleeping in,
I went down to the beach with a blanket and book and enjoyed a
peaceful sunrise.

The weather on Sunday turned cold and rainy, but we tried
to make the best of it. The boys still had fun swimming and sitting in the hot tub while we sat and watched.

It was the perfect weekend and it leaves me wishing that
Summer wasn't already over.
Although I LOVE Fall, I'm just not ready for cold weather, flu season, shorter days, and being stuck indoors:(

Next Step...

One of the treatments for thyroid cancer is radioactive iodine (RAI) therapy.  Since the thyroid naturally absorbs almost all of the iodine in the blood, when radioactive iodine is introduced into the body, any cancer cells that remain after surgery are typically killed with minimal ill effects to the rest of your body.

Often doctors instruct their patients to follow a low iodine diet for 2+ weeks prior to the RAI therapy.  The purpose is to starve the body of iodine so that when the radioactive iodine is given, any remaining thyroid cells absorb it.

Jason spent a couple of hours walking around Smith's reading labels and trying
to find things that I could eat.

The diet is a little complicated in that you should not eat: dairy products, seafood, processed or bakery foods, foods from restaurants/carry out, whole eggs, foods containing iodized salt, most chocolate, red kidney beans and anything containing Red Dye #3---and that's just the short list!

It was a little tender mercy that it happened during this time of year.
For the past 16 days I've pretty much eaten only fresh fruits and vegetables with a little
bit of meat added in.

Last Friday my levels were high enough that I was
ready to do the radioactive iodine therapy.
I was a little worried that it was going to be in liquid form and I would have to drink something nasty.
(I have a horrible gag reflex so that might have been a challenge.)
It ended up being nothing more than swallowing a
$10,000 pill
OUCH!!!

I think the hardest part of it has been being isolated from people.
Because my body is radioactive I can't take the risk of transferring it to someone else. So for the past couple of days I've been on a mini-vacation:) I've had time to do all those things that normally get set aside like scrap booking, reading books, and napping:))
